The Caravan Salon in Düsseldorf is the world's most important trade fair for caravans, campers and motorhomes. Everyone who is anyone in the industry gathers here. It was my first time attending this show — and I was thoroughly impressed.
The Caravan Salon has existed since the 1960s. That alone shows that people have always understood mobile travel as a way of life. Of course, a caravan or motorhome can also be a practical necessity — for showmen who need to live near their workplace, or athletes who regularly attend tournaments and events. But mobile travel is far more than mere utility.
The Caravan Salon in Düsseldorf tells a story about how people live, feel and shape their everyday lives. Walk through any typical residential area today and you'll see them everywhere: caravans, campers and motorhomes, ready to go. “Ready to go” — whenever, wherever, and with whomever you choose. That is freedom in its purest form: being on the move, discovering new places, yet always having your home with you.
Of course you can also travel by motorbike, bicycle or on foot. But sleeping in your own camper while on the road is something truly special. That feeling of independence — that is real luxury.

My Visit — Arrival & First Impressions
The journey there was already an experience in itself: campers and motorhomes from all over Europe everywhere, all heading for the same destination. My car park was about three kilometres away, but the excellent shuttle service took me comfortably right to the exhibition arena, next to the Düsseldorf football stadium.

The event is spectacular. From luxury motorhomes to compact entry-level models, everything is on display. The level of comfort is astonishing — travel at its finest. No manufacturer arrives unprepared: innovation, design and technology merge into a complete mobile experience. Names like Fendt, Hobby, Kabe, Dethleffs, Bürstner, Adria, Hymer, Carthago, Weinsberg, LMC, Sunlight, Niesmann+Bischoff, Malibu, Tabbert, Pössl, Laika, Concorde and Knaus — everyone who matters in the caravan world is represented here.
What you see there goes beyond the ordinary. It is a mobile show of superlatives, brimming with highlights, trends and ideas. Beautiful vehicles, beautiful people, curious visitors — a feast for the senses, for the eyes, for the imagination. The market is booming, and you feel it in every hall. More and more people want to experience new things on the road, free and independent.
The idea of travelling in your own little home — kitchen, bedroom, living room always with you — has something magical about it. While the landscape changes outside, everything inside remains familiar. A living painting, constantly in motion — and you're right in the middle of it.
